The MBI Experience
你好, 안녕하세요,こんにちは, Kia Ora!
Welcome to the MBI International Department.
MBIS is an inclusive and supportive environment where promoting a lifelong love of learning and academic achievement is high on our priority list.
Our strong global reputation and depth of experience in hosting International Students, along with being a signatory to The Code of Practice (2016), means we are able to offer your child an amazing education experience.
You are welcome to join us for a school tour and see for yourself how we support and engage our International Students. Please email Graham Franklin if you would like to learn more.
Orientation
How does the education journey begin?
An Orientation programme has been especially designed to set our Students up for success from the very beginning.
We welcome students to the school with an Orientation programme, which includes a tour of the school and a meet and greet with members of the International Team. International Student leaders are a friendly face and offer additional language support. Stationery is provided.
Learning Opportunities
Students will have one main homeroom teacher, who teachers Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and our Generalisations - which include Science, Health, History and Social Studies. While integrated into all classroom programmes, students also attend our Specialist Subjects. These include Food Technology, Science, Soft Materials, Mechatronics, Control Technology, Drama and Dance, Music, Digital and Visual Art.
All International students participate in all realms of school life, including Education Outside the Classroom experiences such as camps in Year 8 and outdoor excursions in Year 7, along with being able to participate in many extra curricular activities, which includes our music and sports opportunities.
International Students are integrated into classrooms with New Zealand students from the first day at Murrays Bay Intermediate School. All Long-Term International Students (here at MBIS for one term or more) who qualify to receive extra support with their English are invited to join our ELIP (English Language Intensive Programme). Students are assessed in reading, writing and oral language and are then placed in levelled ELIP groups. They are withdrawn from their class to attend their ELIP lessons for 1-5 blocks per week and learn English from trained teachers. Students are re-assessed regularly and move through the ELIP groups until they are ready to progress beyond the programme.
